#GuideTo: ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO
The 11th annual ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO begins this Thursday, April 28th at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California. The expo is the "first and only national conference dedicated to songwriting and composing," and spans three action packed days in sunny LA! Similar to Miami’s Winter Music Conference (which I covered in two previous posts: here and here), ASCAP’s popular “I Create Music” EXPO is an ideal opportunity for songwriters, composers, vocalists, instrumentalists, producers, and music industry leaders to network with top creative talent from around the globe. However, unlike WMC, the ASCAP EXPO isn’t limited to the electronic music scene. ASCAP attendees should anticipate meeting everyone from pop songwriters, R&B vocalists, blues pianists, rock drummers, jazz label managers, electronic music producers, film composers, and so much more. The 2016 ASCAP "I Create Music" EXPO kicks off early Thursday morning with non-stop discussion panels, lectures, and performances that continue late into the night and throughout the week. With keynote speakers ranging from Timbaland to Bear McCreary (film composer for The Walking Dead), as well as dozens of other notable speakers (see the full list here), this is a perfect opportunity for unsigned artists to learn from the industry’s greats while potentially making that key connection to land a record deal or meet future collaborating artists. Check out a comprehensive schedule containing all of the exciting happenings at this year’s ASCAP EXPO here and watch a video of last year's highlights below. If you're already signed up, be sure to complete your ASCAP EXPO profile (a link was emailed to you when you registered) and start reaching out to other attendees. For those of you who haven't yet purchased passes, single day passes are still available online and onsite during the expo. If you aren't able to attend, no worries: Over 60 hours of video content featuring over 40 panels and events will be available for purchase after the EXPO here.
