LP: Vaporwave | Artist: Color Palette
Going against every Canadian spelling I've ever held dear, Washington band Color Palette drop their new LP Vaporwave, a long awaited full-length ready for consumption. It's the mother of all new-wave albums; a rock giant ready to transport you to the summer of '84, where high-waisted short shorts and thick moustaches danced 'til the wee hours of the AM.
Filled with ten gorgeous tracks (five brand new), Vaporwave melds what some might call post-punk into an ethos of glowing synth-pop. The five-piece ensemble manage to balance the harder, guitar-based riffs with nostalgic synthesizers and electronic production as elegant as they are inventive. My favourite tune off the record has to be Rogue Wave. With an anthemic bridge led by Jay Nemeyer's impassioned vocals, the track carries a beat that you can't help but sing along to. Once the refrain hits, the energy shifts into a melodious chaos that sits somewhere between melancholy and radiance - a sound familiar throughout the entire album. Grab Vaporwave at iTunes here and don't forget to follow the group at their socials before you get your groove on below!
