Clear your schedule. Hold the phones. Sh*t's about to get real. Vandelux has just released his first original tune and it's a real doozy; doused in southern acoustic sampling, tasteful percussion, and filthy stutters, I present to you: Stimulus.
You might recognize the name Vandelux as one of the most blogged mashup artist's of 2015. With chart topping remixes of Biggie Smalls, Snoop Dogg, & Wild Belle, the "gold-trim mashup god" (as we like to call him) is on a mission to bring the funk to your soundsystem, and in my humble opinion he's succeeding. Officially unshackled from the confines of the mashup market, Luxembourg-based producer Evan White (aka. Vandelux) shows off his most noteworthy jam yet.
"The narratives have been arranged in an attempt to speak to the evolution of hip hop - a genre derived from another artist's emotional interpretation of the original, and often to the original artist's dismay, warped and made possible through technology."
Built around vocal samples taken from a clump of Mississippi school board teaching clips of the 50's, Stimulus melds blues with hip hop; an unlikely duo that sounds like absolute perfection in concert. Reminiscent of Gangstagrass, one of our all-time favourite bluegrass-hip hop collaborations, the tune explores an offbeat mix of upbeat melodies and ironic narratives. While Stimulus pays homage to the Delta blues genre of old Mississippi, Vandelux ensures his listeners feel the trill of the 21st century; head bobbing from start to finish with absolute feels you won't want to miss!
