Relatively unknown in the North American mainstream, Melbourne beat wrangler Will Cuming (aka. LANKS) is on the up-and-up with his latest single Golden Age, dishing a hook-heavy mix of indietronica that will have you swooning 10 seconds in!
Posted in follow-up to his 2015 Banquet EP, Golden Age is the LANKS tune the world has been waiting for. While we're a little late in posting this one (as it was released in early February), I couldn't help but spread the word about this incredibly talented, independent artist. The singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist has been gaining quite a bit of attention across the world for his new single; from non-stop triple j rotation to an abundance of tastemaker support. Not only is LANKS pumping out top-notch material of his own, but the classically trained jazz guitarist recently collaborated with fellow Aussie BATTS to provide dreamy guitar licks on her latest single Kiki (featured on TBF here).
"In unusual style, LANKS’ songs evoke folk storytelling within the framework of electronic music. What links the songs is a natural narrative – drifting between tales of vengeful samurais, desert bandits and the lonely deep sea, to the suburban mundane – lost love and daydreams of paradise."
Providing fans a rich cocktail of guitar-backed melodies, staccato hi-hats, and stuttering synth work, LANKS concocts an entirely unique sound that's both ahead of the game and just downright catchy. Golden Age paints a sonic soundscape of notable contrast, from screaming vocal chops to chilled out falsetto it jumps from one tempo to the next until you can't get it out of your head. Wrap your ears around the two-track remix pack for Golden Age below and check out LANKS' super hip Grandma, Valda Cuming, who provided the stellar artwork for his new single!
